Analog Devices
USA based manufacturer of analogue, mixed signal and digital semiconductor products, especially strong in high end analogue and DSP products but also make micro-controllers and the like.

Originally founded in 1965 to manufacture miniature op-amp's for use in test equipment and measurement devices and branched into the manufacture of microelectronics in 1970 when it became clear that they would in the future no be able to compete with manufacturers that used integrated circuit technologies. ADI had by the 1990's become something of a technological leader in the world of analogue and mixed signal IC's but has increasingly been moving into the field of digital electronics specially DSP and similar products.

The company bought Pastoriza Electronics in 1969 and with it got hold of a number of pioneering A/DC and DAC technologies which really put ADI on the map since a number of them turned out to be patentable giving the company a head start over their future competitors, in 1971 they bought Nova Devices which became the company's semiconductor division, but the company's CEO had participated in the founding of Nova just 2 years earlier and ADI had sold Nova products under their own name. The integration of the technologies from those 2 companies is really the foundation what ADI became, but the miniaturisation of converters into IC's remained much more profitable that that of op-amps that soon became a commodity item.
