Equipment "Tuners" "Tuners" is a German slang for shops that specialise in mildly modifying new audio equipment for a better sound quality. Unlike UK or US modification shops that usually only work on a small or specialised range of equipment, those German tuning shops utilise more generic modifications and will modify most recent hi-fi units. Some of them also perform more specialised mods. This is not as "kranky" as it may seem at first and indeed many of the specialised manufacturers are doing more or less the same thing but add their own badge to the proceedings. The history behind the Norge name is interesting, Shyam Bajaj's father started the company in 1946 as a radio repair workshop, Shyam started working there in 1952 but was more interested in the then emerging filed of hi-fi equipment than radio repairs so he tried for years to get an apprenticeship with one of the larger European or American audio companies to no avail, by chance he got in contact with Tandberg who agreed to take him on and when he returned to India he started manufacturing a line of hi-fi products and named it in honour of Norway. -- Official homepage.
