Shure Inc.
USA based audio manufacturer, primarily makes pro-audio products like microphones, DJ pickups, small mixers & headphones for musician and DJ usage although they also have a small line of gramophone pickups and earphones intended for consumers. The company has production facilities in the USA and Mexico but has more recently also worked a lot with Chinese OEM's and subcontractors. It took over Danish Interpretation Systems in 2011.

Company originally founded in 1925 as a parts distributor called the Shure Radio Company but changed its name to Shure Brothers in 1928, by 1930 the original business model had failed due to the depression but the company managed to survive as an exclusive distributor for a small microphone manufacturer, entered the microphone market themselves in 1932 with a design they had essentially nicked from their main customer and grew substantially during the war years as the USA armed forces had an almost insatiable need for microphone capsules.

After the war they were recipients of sundry war loot technologies from Germany and Japan in regards to phonographic transducers not the least the data from Japanese research institute Riken, this lead Shure to the manufacture of gramophone pickups and they had by the early 1950’s become the biggest maker of such products in North America and for a time were the biggest in the world. From the 1950’s and in to the 1990’s the company used the Royal trademark for their OEM and replacement products.

Spares & service : Due to a change in USA tax laws in the 80's that meant that companies were asked to pay taxes on spares in inventory, Shure stopped the servicing or spare part supply of any discontinued product out of warranty, regardless of how recent that discontinuation is. There is a company however called Delta Audio run by ex-Shure service personnel that will service just about any Shure product and has stocks of spares that the main company does not have and can fabricate others
