Stefan Sonntag Small German manufacturer of arch-top & jazz-guitars both electric and acoustic anud usually sold under his lart name or Sonntag. Their well designed website is worth a visit if you have any interest in such instrument even if only for the unusual amount of information given, including details of where the luthier sources his parts and services, usually not something that they disclose. Steinway Musical Instruments USA based holdings company, founded in 1993 as Selmer Industries when investment bank Kirkland Messina bought the bankrupt assets of Selmer USA in a leveraged buy out. (LBO = they did not pay for it but got loans in the company's name for USD 95 M., note that Selmer USA was actually the Vincent Bach company renaimed, the French Selmer company technically owns the Selmer branding rights). Selmer purchased Steinway & Sons in 1995 also via an LBO and renamed istself to Steinway MI, was made public in 1996 to raise money as the heavy LBO debts were in danger of dragging the company down. After a successful public offering the company bought a number of other MI manufacturers, notably Swedish holdings company UMI in 2000, and in 2002 merged the assets of Selmer and the assets it bought from UMI into a new company called Conn-Selmer. the company's largest shareholer is now South Korean Samick. -- Official homepage.
